NEWS

Well, winter has set in and Powertool HQ is like living on the inside of a fridge. However, life in the fridge does exist ..... new releases and lots coming up.

First up, this month is the long awaited album from Sparrow. It's called 'The New Pastoral'. You may remember the wonderful first single 'The Quiet Revelation' that we released awhile back. For those of you who are not familiar with Sparrow.... the main man is canadian Jason Zumpano. He's an ex-member and driving force from Sub Pop band Zumpano, that band also spawned AC Newman from the New Pornographers. 'The New Pastoral' is a triumph of beautiful melodies and is out now in a very sexy digipak format.

The second CD Single taken from the upcoming debut Surf Friends album is just out. It's called 'You're On My Mind' and it's their catchest song yet! There are two b-sides 'Feeling Of My Heart' and 'Go'. The b-sides will not be available on the album. So..... I totally recommend picking up a copy today! More release shows around the north island are coming up, so keep an eye on the gigs page for details of where and when.

The other new release just out is from the Bilders. It's called 'Parisian Friday'. The latest incarnation of the Bilders features Bill Direen and Nik Le Killer from France. It was recorded in Paris and includes some live recordings. Bill has just won the Micheal King 'Artist In Residence' and will be back in New Zealand from next month until early next year. A mini tour of Bill playing acoustically is taking shape and there are dates booked from early next month. Check out the gigs page for details. The Bilders have two more albums due for release before the end of the year.

In other news:

Fleet fm is no longer. I am very sad to report that Fleet fm has come to an end. The Powertool Records radio show has been a weekly feature for the past five years. For those of you who listened regularly... thanks for the support. There is talk of Fleet being ressurected sometime in the future, let's hope that happens. I for one, will miss them. If you want to hear some of the old shows, you can download them as a podcast here Fleet radio shows

Kiwi fm. 102.2 on your dial and on the internet at www.kiwifm.co.nz . I have new weekly show on Kiwi called 'Outer Space' It happens at 10pm (NZ Time) every Wednesday night. Each week, I have guests up and we chat about their favourite kiwi tracks and why they love them. This weeks special guest is Brother Love .... so tune in.

Paypal: Also .... whilst updating the website, I've noticed that not all the paypal buttons are working. Im trying to fix the problem but it is provng rather frustrating. Anyway... if there is something you would like to buy and you find that paypal is not co-operating, please email me. We can work something out.

Bandcamp: Powertool offers you 10 Free Downloads ( we have to go with the times...): http://powertool-records.bandcamp.com/

We are in the process of setting up artist pages on bandcamp so you will be able purchase songs digitally from us direct.

Cheers

Andrew

New Stuff:

PT099: Brother Love - Funnhaus (CD EP) 2010

The brand new EP from Brother Love has a full band sound as opposed to his last two albums of home recordings. This EP is representative of the devastating Brother Love live experience. Keep an eye on the our Gigs page for upcoming shows around the countryside.

PT101: Bilders - Parisian Friday (CD Album) 2010

Non-studio Recordings by the Bilders Paris Collaboration. Parisian Friday is a selection of live and accidental recordings of Bill Direen and Nik le killer (Nikola Kapetanovic) performed in Paris in 2009 -2010. These songs formed the basis of their performance set in Europe.Happy accident is a theme in this album. Most of the recordings were chance events, capturing performances and songs that would not otherwise have been preserved. There is quite a literary tinge to the song list: a musical setting of a Lewis Carroll poem, a setting of a poem by Anglo-American poet W.H.Auden (released with permission of the Auden estate), and many translations of French songs into English or of Bill Direen’s own songs into French!

SGS006: Surf Friends - Your On My Mind (CD/EP) 2010

The second single taken from their upcoming debut album is their catchiest yet! The two b-sides 'Feeling Of My Heart' and 'Go' will not be on the album.A very good reason to grab a copy now and start dancing early. Make 'Your On My Mind' the soundtrack to your next love affair.

PT093: Sparrow - The New Pastoral (CD Album) 2010 Powertool Records

After many delays, the new album from Jason Zumpano's Sparrow has finally arrived. It's choke full of beautiful songs and sing-along melodies. Add the New Pastoral to your playlist and brighten up your winter. Out now on Powertool Records in a gourgeous digipak.

PT098: Mark Airlie - Stranger In These Times (CD / EP) 2010

The latest offering from Mark Airlie. Four alternative pop songs, done as only Mark Airlie can do. Tortured vocals, emotional lyrics and always interesting. A must for all sensitive souls everywhere.

PT096: Cat And Sock (CD/EP) 2010

Tthe debut EP from Cat And Sock. Their music has layers of electronic textures fighting it out with dodgy samples from cheesy sci-fi films and various other disreputable sources. Transport yourself to audio-phonic realms undreamt of by getting yourself a copy.

SGS005: Surf Friends - I Tried (CD/EP) 2010

From Surf Friends formation in early 2009 songs have flowed blending the early indie sounds of Flying Nun bands such as The Clean with new experimental waves of No Age and Deerhunter. Surf Friends are driving a new alternative sound.

This is the first single taken from their upcoming debut album. It features two b-sides that will not be avaailable on the album.

PT097: Lord Bishop Rocks - 21St Century Underground Rock (CD Album) 2010

He's flamboyant, sexy, rude, wild, he's the one and only Lord Bishop. Lord Bishop could be called the original punk, resuming where MC5 left. He's filled with the energy of black rock icons like Jimi Hendrix and Sly Stone. This album was compiled and released especially for the New Zealand tour in Feb 2010.

PT095: Enshrine - This, Then Now (CD Album) 2009.Powertool Records

Enshrine are Kelly Micheal & Angela Forsman. This DIY album is the result of nine years work. Raw and beautiful and now finally available for all to enjoy.

PT094: Surf Friends (CD/EP) Powertool 2009

"Surf Friends are a new indie band from Auckland Drawing from the influences of Flying Nun bands such as The Clean , this Auckland 3 piece will make anyone into that sound happy , looped tracks background synth and harmonica along with guitar bass and drums create a very large 3 piece sound
