New Stuff:

PT107:Azalia Snail - Celestial Respect ( CD Album) 2011 Powertool Records

Azalia Snail (USA) returns to these shores later this month and is doing a whirlwind national tour. She will be here promoting her brand new album 'Celestial Respect', being released to coincide with the tour. It is a dual label release .... out here on Powertool and stateside on Silber Records.

PT106: Black Wings - Meltwater (CD Album) 2011

Black Wings pick over the carrion of human existence and present their set with a caution that it might not always be pleasant listening. The song subjects of lost love, heartbreak and death in the bands material suggests a gloomy, introspective vibe. Nothing could be further from the truth. Black Wings are all about freedom and happiness and the prospect of a better life after getting through the shit you have to go through to get to where you're going on the other side.

PT105: The Black Watch - Led Zeppelin V (CD Album) 2010 Powertool Records

L.A. indie rockers the Black Watch brand new album 'Led Zeppelin V' is out now. John Andrew Frederick's vehicle The Black Watch have been around since the eigties. Strong harmonies, intelligent lyrics are order of the day. They were recent visitors to these shores and their show in Dunedin was incredibly memorable for all the Flying Nun royalty that turned out to support them. Buy this if your a fan of The Clean, The Chills, The Able Tasmans, Look Blue Go Purple etc.

PT103: Bilders - Mean Time (CD Album) 2010

Bill Direen writes... This album is very personal but that doesn't mean it's an exercise in naval gazing. It is dedicated to the memory of a friend who died ten years ago this year, someone who used to go to see bandsplay during the proto-punk period (1975-1977) and followed my groups through to their time of mild popularity in the mid-1980s. These songs are a tribute to them all and to a period in time and in New Zealand's history that was a curious mixture of desperation, anger, long discussions and pure affection.

PT102: Bilders - Mindful (CD Album) 2010

Mindful is the Berlin Project Album from the Bilders. This is a collaboration of musicians brought together by german promoter Pascal in the hope that they would become a supergroup. The musicians are Bill Direen - spoken words & songs, Jon Evans (Australia - Germany) - keyboards, Fred Morvan (France) - beats and rhythms. Thomthom Geigenschrey was also added on electric violin. They were offered an exhibition space in Berlin with the idea of working up a performance set. In the weeks that followed it became clear that the group was not going to be a workable entity. But one thing did come out of those few days. Among his analog instruments, synth cables and patchcords Jon had hit the record button.

PT104: Surf Friends - Confusion (CD Album) 2010

It seems like this album has been coming for a long time. In the past year these guys have come a long way. Their sound has evoled from their bluesy beginnings to the electro pop of today. You could say that it was a happy accident, one that has turned them into a powerhouse two-piece with a massive sound and a energetic live act. Four singles have been released from this excellent debut and have received significant airplay on radio throughout New Zealand. From their early Clean inspired songs, they have now forged a sound all of their own.

PT100: Various Artists - Powertool Records Retrospective (Double CD Album) 2010

It's hard to pinpoint exactly when Powertool Records started. It could be argued that it was ten years ago but I tend to think that it was more like eight or nine. This compilation marks release number 100 and features an array of songs chosen by my biggest supporter and good friend, Thomas Keitsch. Tracks included range from indie pop of bands like Joed Out to soundscapes from Robert Scott and alt rock from the Bilders to electro pop of the Surf Friends. Forty songs all taken from our first 100 releases. Enjoy!

SGS009: Surf Friends - Edmund (CD/EP) Powertool 2010

The fourth and final single lifted from the new album 'Confusion' is entitled 'Edmund'. Once again, two b-sides 'I Wanted To Tell Her' and 'No Reply' don't appear on the album, make this a worthy addition to your music collection.

SGS008: Surf Friends - Human (CD/EP) Powertool 2010

The third single taken from the upcoming Surf Friends debut album 'Confusion'. The two b-sides 'Love Everything' and 'Enjoy The Show' are live favourites. Catch them soon at a venue near you. They are doing a full national tour tour in October.

PT099: Brother Love - Funnhaus (CD EP) 2010

The brand new EP from Brother Love has a full band sound as opposed to his last two albums of home recordings. This EP is representative of the devastating Brother Love live experience. Keep an eye on the our Gigs page for upcoming shows around the countryside.
