BORED GORDON

Bored Gordon - Lie if you have to.

Bored Gordon is among a growing list of bands in New Zealand that are subscribing to the No.8 wire home computer approach in producing their music. Sure we may not be able to do it as well as some of the recording wizards around, but with every new recording we gain more knowledge and discover new tricks to getting the sound we hear in our heads onto CD. Plus when you are not paying someone $60-$120 an hour you can relax and take your time with things. This also results in us being able to buy more beer to bribe those radio and TV programmers out there! Since Bored Gordon's arrival on the Auckland music scene with The Peter Pan EP, a video, forty or so gigs, and about fifty million posters on K'rd, we decided it was time for an album. After about 6 months of work (we had to do real work too) we'll be ready for our early September release of Lie if you have to. Thanks to Media Design School coming on board we're fortunate enough to have a video for our first single 'Seaside Suicide' which has been a popular tune at our shows. The single sets the album's tone with its more mature take on our pop sensibilities. Keep an eye out for it mid August. Just one month away from releasing our first LP with our friend and supporter Andrew Maitai on his label Powertool Records it's time to hit the promotional trail. We'll be performing all around Auckland over the next few months. So if you see our album out there or a gig coming up check us out. You might even find yourself singing along. Cheers Bored Gordon.

REVIEWS AND ARTICLES

THE PACKAGE 8TH -14TH DEC 2005: BORED GORDON - Lie If You Have To. Auckland fuzz pop-rockers Bored Gordon have proudly embraced the Kiwi DIY ethic, electing to take their time and record their debut album themselves after cutting their teeth at the controls on their earlier, and critically acclaimed, Peter Pan EP. Chances are you've heard their brooding first single 'Seaside Suiside', which has been on high rotate on Kiwi FM, reached number one on the bFM top ten and enjoyed video play on all major NZ music video shows. The songwriting of Emery/Mallett delivers variety throughout the disc that'll keep you interested. Simon Mallett's largely upbeat vocals are a breath of fresh air. Melody is number one for these guys, whether it's a ballsy indie rock song or one of their slower stripped back numbers. My pick of the album is 'Everyday', which I can imagine gets bodies moving live. The intro builds from a single feeding-back guitar, before slowly building snare drum hits give way to a tumultuous drum roll that kicks the band into the swing of the driving rock verse. Expect to hear more from these guys in the near future. Lie If You Have To is simply catchy as hell - go buy it. Shaun.

RIP IT UP: BORED GORDON - Lie If You Have To. Powertool Records Following on from the positively addictive 'Peter Pan' EP, the boys are back with their unique brand of fuzz pop-rock. As the band describe themselves; think Fu Manchu covering The Beatles. Their debut full length album can only be described as brilliant. Every track combines infectious melodies with a catchy beat and enjoyable lyrics. It would be hard to pick one track ahead of the rest as a stand out, but the first single, 'Seaside Suicide', will give you an excellent idea of what to expect on the album. *****
