Federales
![]() |
Federales are from New York City's smallest borough......Staten Island. There are two core members responsible for all recorded material. JS handles vocals and guitars, while JK plays both drums and bass. Federales released their first EP "Mayday From the Melee" independently in November of 2004. The EP was received with much acclaim, and drew comparisons to The Breeders, Sonic Youth, Pavement, and many others. The bad was soon approached by Krapp Records to record a new EP. "Walk Between Drops" was released in April of 2005, and take major steps in progress from the band's previous release. Federales will be appearing on several upcoming compilations, and plan to record a full length LP by the years end. Reviews THE BIG TAKEOVER ISSUE 59: INTO THE WOULDS. On their first LP, Federales have expanded from a "recording project" duo (singer/guitarist James Schettino and bassist/guitarist Jarrold Kavanagh) to a "real band" trio with the addition of versatile drummer Peter Smith. Smith's dynamic stick-work has upgraded their post-punk attack tenfold, allowing the band to move smoothly and convincingly shift between loud and soft moods. Now, when the shimmering anxiety and tension lurking below their music's surface finally explodes, as on "The Golden Age" or "Gravity Gives," it sounds more persuasive, conjuring up a less heavy version of Dinosaur Jr., Jawbox, or Burning Airlines. Coupled with near-perfect production from old hand Don Fury, and Schettino's improved confidence as both a guitarist and vocalist, the band have successfully built upon the promise of their first two EP's.
