Friendstealer

some time ago, I played a lot of basketball and chess. I enjoyed myself doing these things. I didn't have many thoughts to work. one winter I played jacks every night until four in the morning. I did this for a couple of months. we'd listen to the kinks, rapeman, black flag, the first danzig record, or third eye by redd kross. sometimes we'd get a pizza at eleven or midnight. it was fun. my partner moved away, though, so I was pretty much out of luck. solo jacks...not much fun. around the turn of the 90s, in the middle of all of this, I sold a bunch of things I had accumulated. I bought a car, a bunch of bob dylan CDs, and a bass guitar, because I wanted to be like mike watt. I'd never played an instrument, but it seemed like something I should do, since I listened to records all day long. I didn't play it a whole lot for a couple of years. I formed a loose band, called the filthy speach advocates, with a couple of guys from the record store. we jammed one time, but we quit because the drummer got a headache. I didn't do much after that until the winter of 1992, when I formed a home recording unit called senator dartbitch with my friend max. we recorded three songs, which I still love. there was a fourth session, but the song was dismissed by max as "sounding too much like buffalo tom." I then settled into a few years of inactivity. I rarely picked up the bass. I did listen to a lot of records. sometime in 1996, my friend ron bought a 4-track. that's kinda what happens, isn't it? we started recording vast amounts of music on it. it was a lot of fun and it provided us with more tapes to listen to in our cars, when they were running. a couple of years after that, I bought my own 4-track. I've been recording on that machine, into tape recorders, on crappy digital 4 & 8-tracks and on whatever else will hold sound ever since. I've done a lot of stuff, alone and with various friends and guinea pigs. some of it I love and some has been relegated to the doomed spindle of junk. my most recent EP is called shake the sound. I've always been pretty happy with it. it moves right along, I'd say. I've begun work on an album called possum pants. I'd love to tell you something exciting about it, like fiona apple is going to be on it, or it's been picked up as the theme music for the next olympics, but I'm afraid those would be lies. I do plan to do my best, though. friendstealer@gmail.com
