It's been six months as a solo artist across the muddy landscape of the Auckland music scene, yet as of late Juan Los Bastardos (formerly of The Janets) has become more inclined to return to his roots; that is, playing with an entourage of musicians behind him. Ditching what is self described as 'flaky folksy stuff' and having his music lovingly wrapped with the inclusion of both drums and bass, Juan Los Bastardos' style is an amalgamation of the power-pop tones of the early nineties with the almost garage rock sensibilities of the late nineties. Never scared to experiment with his sound, Juan is joined by Benjii Jackson, taking a back seat from lead vocal duties in punk rock act Salt Pennies and picking up the four string bass guitar, while former Joed Out drummer Andrew Maitai returns as the metronome of the group. The trio made their debut in Hamilton during a Kaleidoscope World Series showcase, winning the adulation of the punters.
