ONANON

Rock, but not the macho, posturing kind. Pop, but not bland and saccharine. And SONGS. Catchy, hooky, memorable SONGS. Does anyone still do that anymore? Onanon does. No one seemed to be creating the music these four people wanted to hear anymore. The only solution was to start a band and make that music themselves. Onanon have soaked up the influence of classic South Island guitar bands such as The Clean, 3Ds and Bailterspace and the DIY punk ethic of the early days of Flying Nun Records to spew forth their own greasy amalgam of guitar noise, catchy melody, and distinctive weirdness. Since formation in 2001, the band has certainly taken to the stage playing University Orientations, completing a South Island tour, appearing on TV2's National Anthem and performing in support slots for touring US bands such as Trans Am and Whirlwind Heat as well as numerous local shows. In the process they have carved out a niche for themselves as a diamond-in-the-rough Dunedin band to watch. In 2004 Onanon released their first album, "Hang On, I'm Still Mutating", a follow-up to 2002's CDR only EP "Quarterpack". For the new recording Onanon ventured from the relaxed comfort of recording in their own lounge to a more acoustically sound studio environment. Arclife engineer Thomas Bell was recruited for engineering and mixing duties, improving the fidelity but leaving the rough edges intact. The subsequent album was described by Critic (Dunedin's student newspaper) as "like a very Kiwi version of the Pixie's Bossanova" and praised for its natural, raw sound and catchy melodies. "Hang on, I'm still mutating" has been making an impact on the Bnet, with several tracks receiving airplay and appearing in their charts. The band's plans for the future include playing more shows in their beloved home town, doing more recording, embarking on a national tour, making their own music videos and continuing to produce their own music their own way in their own sweet time. Stay tuned for more wiggy mayhem and darn good tunes. BAND MEMBERS Glen Ross (Guitar/Vocals) Karen McLean (Bass/Guitar/Vocals) Ants Anema (Drums/Vocals) Donald Ferns (Guitar/Bass/Vocals)
