Members The group has a drummer and a singer and even a guitarist playing keyboarder who plays the bass. Lance Sturgeon has a blue 'catfish' guitar that sparkles like a diamond and the singer apart from rather drab lips is blessed with the voice of a monk. New Release 'Last Chance Ranch' is Out Now. Formed in late 96' as a Shaggs tribute band,
Poison Arrow has developed into a sophisticated outfit displaying
influences diversely as Fela kuti in his Brazilian samba faze or
a fondness for reconceptualizing 60's golden oldies like the impressions
or 80's hard rockers flipper. The men of arrow wish to be judged
on their own terms. After 58 consecutive single tape releases (although
16th tape "grope me leadbelly" did have at least three copies made) and
at least 14 different line ups with 6 alternate names the arrow have rocketed
into the new millennium and embraced the digital format and all its possibilities.
Their new release entitles Welcome to the Last Chance Ranch spans over
30 minutes and contains 12 songs ranging from plaintive to jolly, droll
to down right angered. The first single might be the bad little Richard
imitation Side B(#9), gloom rocker Compromise City(#1) or maybe even poison
Arrows one and only ballet Armpit Mould (#6). If only they can get
massive radio play hops are high. Its here for you now, so enjoy! Remember
as nas said in 92 that sleep is a cousin of death so try not to go to
sleep before listening to this!....................Alan D.

REVIEWS AND ARTICLES
| NZ MUSICIAN OCT/NOV 2005: Poison Arrow - Last Chance Ranch. Poison Arrow's latest release is a simple affair, looking like it was put together on a home computer and sounding as though it was recorded the same way - which, as it happens, suits their style. Despite being around nearly a decade this appears to be their first release on CD and is definitely worth a listen if you're a fan of that dark mid-80's punk sound. Even if you're not a fan of that style, this album is still an interesting listen. Highlights are the 'ballad' Armpit Mould and the opening track Compromise City, a song that anyone who grew up in a small town (or anywhere in NZ), will likely be able to relate to. While not particularly innovative the band do write interesting, catchy songs and play together well. Credit also has to be given for their use of the theremin, an instrument not used enough.
