Smashed MMV - The 2005 Smashed Records Compilation
A Planet Load of Powerpop, Punk and Garage Bands from Australia and Overseas. Coneheads: Guitar pop band from Adelaide. Released 2 singles & an EP on Greasy Pop Records between 1987-90. Re-released soon on CD through Smashed Records. Guitarist/vocalist Andy Bunney later joined the Exploding White Mice. Currently drumming & singing with the Ramonettes. Dust Collection: A side-project party band that generally covered obscure 60s B-sides. Formed in 1985, this garage / psychedelic band won't go away and still plays annual gig reunions in Adelaide. Released one vinyl single on Greasy Pop in 1986 that peaked at No.13 on the Alternative Charts. Ramonettes: Very entertaining three-piece (2 girls & a guy) plays NY style punk meets 60s girl groups. Based in Adelaide, frequently touring Australia and Europe, album out soon on Smashed. Swerve: Powerpop trio formed in Adelaide in 1994 out of the remains of The Handmedowns. 'Let Me Out' EP released in 1997 and the album 'Your Eyes' released in 2005 on Smashed Records. The Handmedowns: Legendry powerpop quartet from Adelaide. 'Goodbye' features Dave Gray of Rocket Science on bass. Still occasionally gigging and finding new CD buying fans in Europe, Japan, USA and New Zealand. Smashed EPs: 'Free Set of Steak Knives' and 'Back To Yourself'. The Offensive: Hanoi's only punk band! Fronted by former Exploding White Mice (EWM) singer, Paul Gilchrist & a band of Ex-patriot Brits & Americans. Responsible for turning Hanoi locals onto punk. Recorded & produced in Adelaide in 2005 with original EWM guitarist Gerry Barrett. The Sack: Featuring members of The Garden Path, The Handmedowns and Dust Collection, these 4 chaps teamed up to simply record some jangly guitar pop. Album 'Clean' out soon on Smashed. The Verge: Psychedelic 80s hippies from Adelaide who believed love and peace would save the world (and their music). A retrospective anthology of various live recordings and resurrected studio tapes of these groovy dressers should surface as an album in early 2006 on Smashed Records. Trailer Park: Powerpop/punk three-piece from the Gold Coast. In a city of white shoes, Hawaiian shirts and lawn bowls, this band has nowhere to play. Luckily the studio audience listens. Smashed Records released 'The Favourite 500 EP' in early 2005.X(Melon): Scandinavian progressive-punk band from Helsingborg, Sweden. Said to sound like the Pistols meets Radiohead and Cheap Trick. EP 'Pure' released on Smashed Records in early 2005. Folded Faces: Surf punksters from Jacksonville, Florida. Appear courtesy of Sexy Killer Records. To reciprocate, The Handmedowns are appearing on the next Sexy Killer Records compilation. Mark Airlie: Multi-instrumentalist & songwriter from Wellington, NZ. EP 'Axecalibur' out now on Smashed Records. Released on Powertool as 'Peril Not A Pearl'. Moj Rakety: Translated from Russian to mean 'My Rocket'. Atmospheric punk band from Moscow. Self titled album due for Australian release on Smashed Records in August 2005. |
