VENTURE ELECTRIC

Venture_electric is an anomaly in the Auckland music scene. Sure,indie-famous Dale Cotton (Conray, Dimmer) produced both their recent EP and their first full-length album, but there is still something fundamentally unhip about them. They're not pop, they're not punk, they're marginally experimental, but shouldn't be characterized as such. The anthemic first track from their self titled debut album will consume the listener with its gushing " I luv heather nova" and "hmmm… there's an introspective person" lyrics. According to that guy "[this]is, without a doubt, the best record of outsider rock in recent memory". The Auckland Band's self titled debut, venture_electric, is a blend of emotional wandering, poetic insight and stark, yet inspirational surroundings. The self titled debut album from venture_electric will be released on powertool records mid 2005. Formed in 2002 and Armed with a hotcake and a carefree revolving door line up, Benjamin Somerville has long abandoned the 'singer/songwriter' schtick, to make the noisy sonic rock that venture_electric have been mining for the past 3 years. Fair play to Gavin Murphy who co-wrote 'realise' and contributed / collaborated immensely on ˝ the songs on the album. The space and the positioning of frequency's in the music, the raw hi-fi sound, has been created by the salubrious talents of producer / engineer Dale Cotton. The backwards piano that starts the record thru to the guitar loop that close the record and dozens of deft sonic touches in between.
